Today is again Saturday and I have a bit of time so I thought I would write a little bit more here. It has been pretty rainy here lately. Today the sun is peeking out between the clouds but Wednesday, Thurday, and especially Friday were grey and wet. Friday it was raining so hard that I got soaked doing chores. It was kind of bleh but ok because I knew that I could go inside and change as soon as I was done (unlike the life of a treeplanter in such weather).
We have been slowly adding the number of animals on the farm here. On Tuesday we got one day old chicks and they were so cute! It is weird to think that they grow up to be pretty ugly. But I got some pictures of the cute stage (I think on day 2) so you can see how cute they are:
We also got some young turkeys. They are very fragile still and aparently could die very easily which is why we get them a few weeks old. Terry says that in a few more weeks they will have passed that stage and will be so hardy that barely anything (at least weather and temperature) will kill them.
I realized that I haven't said much about markets. Terry and Monique sell at two markets, one in Sussex (on Fridays) and the other in Kingston (on Saturdays). The Kingston one is fairly well established and they are known there for their eggs. They sell out of eggs sometimes by 10 or 11 am and the market opens at 8 am. (I washed over 300 eggs yesterday... they get dirty from sitting on the ground and in the hens' poop...and today they will all be sold.) The Sussex market is smaller and is still getting established but they have some customers there too. This market is right close to the Sussex library which is nice for me! Yesterday I was supposed to go to the Sussex market but it was raining so much that we didn't think that the canopy we have would keep me dry so I didn't go. I have been to the Kingston market once and the Sussex one twice and I'm sure I will get much more experience at both before the summer ends.
Well, that's it for now!
Those chicks are too cute!
